    OK...not really...
In the past few days/weeks I’ve seen several posts from brand new
members asking specifically for url’s or links to software and/or hacks. This has occurred in threads that involve the word Macrovision or an
extreme hint at Macrovision (in my opinion).
    I am naturally a very cautious person….bordering on paranoid…but
I grew up around cops most of my life so I have an excuse. When I
see a new person to VH starting thread after thread about one topic….
that being Macrovision…..and in light of the recent contact that VH has had from the company Macrovision….I start to wonder what the poster’s intentions really are.
Please do not start spouting out the legality and illegality of “backing up”
your personal DVD collection to me….I do not care about that. What I do care about is the possibility of someone lurking and posting here who’s sole aim MIGHT be to gain ammunition for sort of possible legal action against VH. This site has been an incredibly valuable resource to many people who are interested in learning about everything “video” and the sheer amount of information that can be found here is mind boggling to people like me who only dabble in the occasional complex video project. What I consider complex is child’s play to many people here. I would like to think that this place will always be here in case I do want to tackle a more indepth video project…and I want to keep it that way.
Anyway…there is NO WAY I am going to stand by and watch someone who I feel has alterior motives in mind without me pointing out the rules of this place….especially pointing them to the latest sticky concerning Macrovision and direct linking. If you don’t like it….Oh Well….get over it…an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
If you have a problem with what I do….send me a PM. Most likely I will laugh outloud then delete the PM….but if it makes you feel better….so be it. There are no rules about pointing out the rules.

    Have a nice day….

maybe they ate your baby, or not -- but they did just eat eMeta (they also own InstallShield)

Macrovision, provider of installation and copy-protection software for the enterprise software, music, and other industries, announced this week it has acquired eMeta.

A privately held company, eMeta provides access control software for media and software companies. The acquisition broadens Macrovision’s reach from physical distribution to online digital distribution, Macrovision said in a press release. The acquisition allows Macrovision to have a more extensive set of digital content management products, it said.

Customers of Macrovision and eMeta will have access to a broader portfolio of products, Macrovision said.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Macrovision,

based in Santa Clara, California, expects the deal to close by the end of the month.

EMeta's employees, including Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Lewin, will remain with the company and join Macrovision’s Corporate Strategy Group.

EMeta’s customers, including newspapers and financial information firms, use eMeta’s products to offer their customers digital access to news sections or chapters of content that are of most interest and value to them.

The company's products are a "perfect complement to our portfolio," Fred Amoroso, chief executive officer of Macrovision, said in a statement. Macrovision customers will benefit from a more complete set of digital offerings, with the "flexibility to adopt new business models, enhance business performance and share content however they choose."

Macrovision plans to incorporate eMeta technology into its products for video, music, enterprise software and games publishers, the company said.
