Hey. Which mpeg encoder is the best when encoding from captured avi (VHS) to VCD?

I'm only talking quality now, not speed.

  2. I tested TMPGEnc, Panasonic, and LSX when I was converting a
instructional swing dance tape from VHS to digital format. Both
MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 target formats were used. In the end,
quality wise, TMPGEnc won out for me. Your mileage may vary.

One point is that you can't beat the price of TMPGEnc v2.02

I would be curious myself to find out what kind of encoding quality
the more expensive software encoders give you.
