I use freeringers.net. Pay the $8 for lifetime membership, then download whatever you want to your phone. You don't need the cable, since it sends your ring tone to your phone as a text message attachement.

Make sure it works with your phone before you do it.

I think that's depends to a large degree on what phone you've got...
Most likely, you'll find the app to use if you visit the home page of A) the phone manufacturer or B) the cable manufacturer (I've had several cables from www.mobileaction.com)

  4. Like mats says, all depends on the phone. In my case I just blutooth mp3's to my phone, no software required.

Just right click on the file, and send as bluetooth. Either that or access the phones filesystem, again using bluetooth and copy and paste.

  5. Don't pay for a service you may only use once in a while.
If you have a web enabled phone, upload whatever you want to http://rumkin.com/tools/sprint/ then download to your phone. (You don't have to be a sprint cust to do this)
If your phone has bluetooth (OBEX FTP profile enabled), then Craig's method works best.
If you don't have bluetooth, then the phone mfg ususally has some sort of software to use a USB cable.
If you can't use that, use rumkin.

    What phone do you have?
    What provider?

Pretty much the same thing I do. Edit the file in Sound Forge then just copy paste to the phone via bluetooth. I don't use ringtones, though. So I just do it because I can.

  7. I have the Sony Ericsson W900 wich is a really good mp3 player. So I regularly transfer mp3's to my phone. If I am doing a lot in one go then I stick my ms Duo in my card reader on my pc and copy them that way. Much quicker than bluetooth. My phone hag 1.5 GB storage

This is a free service that will allow you to download any mp3 you have on your computer to your phone. you do need to be able to access the internet from you phone I believe, at least last time I used it you did.
