    Hello,
I have a 2 part avi file on my computer that when I ran through gspot tells me its xvid withac3 audio.
When I first tried to play it there was a constant clicking sound in the audio and I had to download an ac3 filter which fixed the problem.

I used tmpgenc dvd source editor to convert it to a dvd mpeg file.
The first time I used vbr with mpeg layer 2 audio (Not sure of the exact wording as Im not at home now but you get what I mean.)
The resulting file was around 4.6gb but I had all sorts of problems with it. It wouldnt play in media player and would just freeze up my computer and nothing would happen for 5 minutes or more. I ended up trying to delete the file and still had problems as the computer kept freezing up and I had to reboot. (For the record its a P4 2.6ghz with 1gb ram and 80gb sata drive so heaps of herbs for the task.)

So then take two I encoded it this time as CBR mpeg layer 2 audio...

However whilst the file payed okay in media player there was no audio.

Take three and as I left for work this morning I had just started anothger encoding this time uisng CBR with PCM audio. I noticed however that it has created two files, an mv2 file and a .wav file for the audio.

Is this the way to go? I want to convert the mpeg file to dvd vobs to burn to dvd in the end.
What should I be doing to get the result I want?

    Thanks in advance.

If it's the typical Xvid off the net, you might try the easy way first and just drop both AVIs into DivxToDVD and see if it can convert them.

If you want to do it with TMPGEnc, you may have to demux the audio out and put it to the side. Then convert the AVI to DVD compliant MPEG-2 and when you author it, put the AC3 back in. I'm assuming you don't have to do any NTSC<>PAL conversions.

Most Xvids, if unknown, I drop into VirtualDub first and let it check for errors or problems.

    It's easy with a single file. I use VirtualDub Mod. Streams>Stream list>Demux.

I then use TMPGEnc DVD Author for authoring. Select the video after encoding to DVD compliant video. Then select the AC3 file that you muxed out. Add menus, etc., and author and burn.

Two files, just process the second one the same way and add it also to the authoring program, then author and burn.

It may not work as easy, but I've done it with Xvids with MP3 converted to WAV instead of demuxing and then to AC3 with ffmpeggui for the authoring process. If your AC3 isn't compliant, then you may have to fix that.

I probably left something out, been a while since I've done it.

I ran it through divx to dvd (Well it was the latest version convertx to dvd) and it works fine and plays on the dvd player no problems. I might try your other method and demux just to see how that works.

    Thanks.

Okay just wondering how I handle a movie with two files in virtualdubmod? The movie has part 1 and part 2 but Im not sure if I should demux them one at a time or open them both together, if thats possible?

You can try to join them (append) in VDM. I have used avisynth to do this successfully on several occasions.
