Not to be a jerk, but the videohelp.com favicon sucks.

    What is this thing?

FAVICONs are 16x16 image, 16 colors only (transparent can be used too).

You can create them in an image software, like Adobe Photoshop or Adobe ImageReady, then save them as 16-color GIF files. Then you can use any number of free tools to convert to ICO files.

This one is down online for you: http://www.chami.com/html-kit/services/favicon ..... instantly makes you a ZIP file that you can download several ICO files (see readme.txt in zip).

How about having a contest for the best favicon?
Then use that instead of that unusual amorphic grayish blob?

How about a dvd circle with v on the top and help below it??? I am not very good at computer graphics - just the ms paint program for scribbling so I can't really submit a finished version of my suggestion for the favicon.

One thing I find about the icons is that they don't work in IE. The only time they work is if you save as a favorite. From there it shortly disappears after it gets removed from your temp files or you clear your history.

it can be 32 x 32 or even higher as it gets resized
which looks much better on the desktop
    don't believe me?
    try it

so maybe the contest should be for the best 32 x 32 that also resizes to the best 16 x 16

Not sure about favico.ico but desktop icons are actually made up from numerous icons. Some of the techniques I've read for making them is creating in a .gif animator where you create a icon for each dimension in seperate frames, there's programs to convert to the .ico. Each one is apllied where needed when viewing.

Might be the same for favico.ico ... too lazy to look it up.

I suck at photochop, but I like the idea of extending the V so that the icon itself is more 3 shapes that create an virutal V.

    Bad example
