Is anyone aware of any non-Mac software capable of producing the I-DVD effect known as "sliding panes"? I saw this for the first time this last weekend and thought it looked very sharp and professional.

If you google it, the first hit will be for software called DVD Slideshow Designer (azfane.com). The software looks good but, when trying to buy it, I get a dead link. In any case, the section entitled "Animated DVD Menus" has a small picture of what I'm looking for, if that helps anyone.

If you are aware of how this can be done a la IBM, please let me know!

    Thanks,

    Zeek

A very small picture. Assuming the panes are just stills that pass behind each other (hard to tell from that picture alone), any decent editor (Vegas, Premeire Pro, Media Studio Pro) could do it using motion paths. It could also be done pretty easily for free using Wax2 or ZS4, or more expensively with something like After Effects.

All it will really take is some time on your part to learn one of these enough to pull it off. None of these applications have a pre-packaged effect like that, so it would be all manual.

    Hiya, Gunslinger...

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, that picture is quite small. Dammit.

The panes are actually moving video with constant scene changes occuring, and with the panes themselves moving, as well. Sounds a little bizarre until you see it, but it actually looks quite nice. Come to think of it, I do own a DVD that has this effect - but I've only seen it in this one other place.

As I say, I don't know squat about I-DVD (Mac stuff) but, according to the guy that authored the DVD, the effect is indeed a pre-packaged template. Too bad we (probably) do not have this on our side of things yet, because it looks very cool.

Thanks, BJ_M. Don't have/use Vegas, but I will definitely be checking it out now.

And, guns1inger, I found a better example. It's not a moving one, but have a look at this one here:
