I currently tape all of my group's improv comedy shows with a Panasonic DV camera. The method of taping is basically to start recording and then let it go till the end of the show (1+ hours), meaning there are no scene changes in the video. What I want to do is figure out a good method of converting the .avi files to .mpg, and then split the files into chapters for each of the different games we play.

My current method is as follows:
    1. Capture .avi file with Ulead VideoStudio9
    2. Convert .avi to .mpg using WinAVI converter
    3. Split into files with VideoReDo
    4. Burn to DVD using Ulead VideoStudio9

The problem with this method is that the splitting takes forever. I have to individually mark one section that I want to split, save it, and then mark the next one, and so on...

    Things I have tried:
VirtualDubMod - it doesn't like the converted .mpgs (wont allow direct stream copy)
Easy Video Splitter - doesn't allow multiple splits in one pass
SolveigMM video splitter - only shows 7 minutes of clips for some reason

So my ultimate question is can anyone suggest either a splitting program, or a better method than the one above for getting this done?

As I understand it, you don't really need to split anything. Import your MPEG file into an authoring program and set your chapter stops in that. TMPGEnc DVD Author is a good "learning" package.
    If in doubt, Google it.

TDA lets you edit out any unwanted footage at the same time.

I actually used to do it in that manner, where I would just use VideoStudio for the splits and things like that. The problem is that I want to keep a lot of the footage on my computer for later dates to be able to make short clips for the internet and "Best Of" videos, such as all of the best games that someone was in. To me, it would be easier to do this if they were all split already, so that if I wanted to put a new video of a game up on our website, I would only have to compress it to a smaller size.

You could try one of the womble products to do your splitting, either mpeg-vcr or video wizard.

Turns out that someone else had a similar problem https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=295437&highlight=

On a side note, I can't seem to find any good guides to settings for video conversion for video to be posted on the internet (for streaming/downloading). Can anyone suggest one (I'm using WinAVI Converter).

Yes , it's a pain ... not like version 7 which was dead set simple .

Anyway , as you already capture in ulead video studio , there is another method to snipping stuff out , or splitting it .

Output to dvd folder , dont use filter's and other stuff as the conversion will take longer .

    Follow this guide :

It's the freeway to removing unwanted material from vob's , and it's less of a problem .
