I recently began recording shows off the TV using WinXP MCE 2005. These shows I then edited w/ DVR Edit to remove commercials. My problem came when making them MPGs. I would then burn to a DVD but once they had been re-encoded...the volume level was decreased by half or more! I have used Nero Vision Express 3 to re-encode these shows. Originally I thought the issue was the audio format used for this (LPCM vs. Dolby Digital 2). I have tried both, and this option does not seem to make a difference. I also tried re-encoding at High, Standard, Long, Extended, etc. qualities on the video setting w/ no luck. I even tried making the movie a WMV, then a MPG with no luck again! Is there something I need to adjust w/ my sound control panel? Does anyone have any other free or relatively cheap good programs to suggest to create the DVD that I want?
My PC is a Gateway GT5032:
Athlon X2 4200+, 1GB RAM, 160GB & 250GB HDs, XP MCE 2005

There are other posts here concerning low sound after converting avi to mpeg. The most suggested fix is to take an audio program such as GoldWave to perform the audio conversion instead of allowing it to be done by your current software. You can also use Goldwave to extract and adjust the volume levels of your current files.
