  1. First of all im new to this board so just want to say hi

    I have ripped a DVD movie to Avi using resloution of 720x576,with birate of 1500 using flasKMPEG.The avi file looks awesome.But when i encode the avi file to Mpeg2(svcd)using nero, the quality is not good as the avi file,so my question is what can i do to make the Mpeg2 file looks better or good as Avi file is this possible if yes pls tel me how............

  2. I tried the Nero built in encoder too and it's awful. Use TMPGenc to encode to MPEG-1(VCD) or MPEG-2(SVCD). From my personal experience (which is not all that extensive ), when converting from .avi to .mpg you're not going to get much better results with SCVD than VCD simply because the video you're dealing with has already been compressed. I usually run the .avi through VirtualDub with video set to direct stream copy and the audio set to full processing with the compression at <No compression (PCM)>, this will rebuild the index and also give TMPGenc a good wav to work with. Then open the resulting .avi in TMPGenc and encode to mpg. Follow the guide at http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm
