Hi,
In the capture step from DV camcorder (using IEEE-1394 card), I have a time delay of about 10 seconds after clicking the "capture video" till the capture process starts. Meantime the playback is running, so the first 10 seconds of the begining of the capture is lost.
Thanks for any help,
Avi

This problem can be caused by program's running in the background causing the issue .
Antivirus program's are the biggest cause ... and the god of them all is norton's antivirus .. if installed , get rid of it , and use avg antivirus instead ... norton's is a resource hog that can bring any pc to it's knee's .
Go to start , run , type MSCONFIG .
Go to startup tab .
Here is a list of all program's running at pc startup time .. the only one you should allow is your antivirus program ... prefer avg .
Uncheck all other's , then hit apply , then hit ok , restart pc .
These program's will now only be available when you go to use them ... much better .
Restart pc now ...
Back in pc ...
Press CTRL + ALT + DEL , you will now see task manager , click on tab "process's" .
Here you will se a list of program's running in the background ... as not all system's will be running the same program's , it will be up to you to decide which one's are valid for the system , those marked with the login user name that is ... never remove any system allocated task's .
You may have program's under user login name that are associated with printer's , scanner's and alike ... these can be safely told to get out ... but as you are using ieee , you may have more than one listed for this device ... or not ... even if you accidentally remove this one , it should fire up the moment ulead is told to connect to device .
Hardware :
ieee dosent much like usb , even though it is supposed to , this is not true in some case's .
The recommend method is to remove anything usb connected to the pc during the capture if possible ... mice and keyboard's on usb should be fine , but printer's , scanner's and any other usb connected device should be removed .
After reading the fine print in the manual for our sony camera , it reported the blue memmory dump screen error as having to do with usb connected device's ... after removal or these , all went well .
Of course , you should be importing from dv , not capturing anyway . -
Thank you very much for your detailed guide. Later, I will do excactly as you told me.

I don't know if VideoStudio is the same, but Ulead Mediastudio Pro has an option in the capture module to pre-allocate disc space. If that is set, there is a delay before the capture starts as it prepares space on the hard drive. It is supposed to make capturing less prone to dropped frames but I have turned it off and never suffered any problems.

I used to have the same issue with PS8 (Pinnacle Studio) but the delay is much shorter (about 3 to 5 secs).
The way to work around it is to tell PS8 not to send PLAY command to the DVD cam (there is a check mark, I just un-check it).
So I hit capture, wait a little while then hit PLAY on the DV cam.
That fixes it.
Another way is when you start videotaping with a blank tape, capture 10+ seconds of anything you don't care.ktnwin - PATIENCE
