Why cant sony support Xvid files? I really like Xvid. I can render videos in Xvid using Vegas, but I cant use Architect with the avi's ive rendered. It doesnt make sense.

However, I do have some videos I would like to use to make a dvd with architect. They are in the Xvid format. I tried using Nics FourCC Changer to change it to divx to be read by Vegas, so that I can render it in mpeg. However, it only opens up the video, not the audio. It tries to but goes very slow, or dies. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get the files that I want onto Architect? Thanks in advance.

afaik, Vegas doesn't support xvid/divx videos -- you could convert them to uncompressed .avi and then edit them...

Remember - Vegas and Architect are professional tools - video pros are rarely interested in working with xvid/divx source material.

vegas will support divx to a point (depends on version)-- and xvid sometimes if you change the 4CC to divx ..

this is not always the case though

vegas does support all types of H264 though - as well as mpeg2 and vobs

Thanks for the replies. I dont know why pros dont like xvid, i kinda like it. But what i ended up doing is using Nics FourCC Changer to change xvid to divx, so that I could at least open the video up in Vegas. Then I used a separate program to rip the audio, combined the audio with the video in Vegas and then rendered it as an mpg. The audio was synced in the beginning, but off in the end of the video so I had to do some tweaking to get it synced. Seems like a lot of work just to get these files compatible with Architecht.

But thanks for the replies, and the pointers. I guess I will try to stay away from Xvid.

they like xvid - but it is a delivery format, not a editing format per say ...
