    Hi All,
I realise variations of this topic have been posted a lot but I couldn't find one that helped my situation but I apologise if there is one that I missed. I've been trying to capture an NTSC video so I can convert it to PAL and put it on a DVD. I'm using a Winfast DV2000 as my capture card and just using the basic Winfast PVR program (version 3.0.10.79) that came with it . I can capture PAL videos perfectly but when I use an NTSC video it comes up black and white and a bit fuzzy. It sounds OK though. But I do know why it is doing this. I have made sure that the program knows the input is NTSC.

So I also tried hooking my VRC up to my TV and then hooking the TV up to my TV capture card and trying to capture it like that becuase when I play the video through the TV it works perfectly. However I can't capture anything from the TV at all it, whether a video or a regular channel. It is still Black and white and the picture is fuzzy and flickers on and off.

So I'm fairly stuck. Any ideas at all as to why I cannot capture an NTSC video or capture the TV by hooking it up to my capture card would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers, Benjamin

    Hi Benjamin!

Well mate, I think the problem may be that the source you are trying to capture FROM is PAL and not NTSC to begin with. Since the WinFast card is set to whatever region you purchase it in (in this case you are in PAL land) the captures look bad - something like a rolling vertical mess, I'd imagine.

If you can capture in PAL and your net output is to PAL DVD, skip the NTSC altogether and go with PAL input to PAL output.

Post back and let us know what you find!

    Cheers!

If you have an NTSC tape playing through an Australian VCR....you are not getting a true NTSC signal. 99% of the time a viewable B&W image(to a DVD Recorder or capture device) means you are seeing a "quasi" signal...meaning it is neither a true NTSC nor a true PAL signal.
A scrolling, jumping almost unviewable(yet still in pretty colors) means that your VCR cannot even produce a Quasi signal....it is straight PAL only.

There is a setting in the card configuration for the type of video. If you have a VCR that plays NTSC as NTSC just switch the format to NTSC.

Edit: nevermid jst read you have already done this.

    Hi All.
My vcr wasn't the problem. The video that I had wasn't in NTSC, it was in PAL-60 which is why neither standard PAL or ntsc would display it correctly. The default winfast capture didn't have this as an option but at http://tw1965.myweb.hinet.net/x64.htm there is a utility that gives the ability to capture many other formats. I used that and my video worked out fine.

    Thanks for everyone's suggestions.

    I highly doubt that.
