can anyone help me on this. i have included a picture of the problem. i think it might be my vcr. i get a kind of strip at the bottom of my video when capturing and can't seem to get rid of it. thanks.

It is the overscan.

All my VCRs do this with tapes to varying degrees, but you won't see this when watching the tape on an ordinary television as it is outside what is shown.Cole -
A television doesn't show the extreme edges of the image ... this is called "overscan".
A computer monitor does not have "overscan" so you do see the extreme edges.
That crap at the bottom is always there you just can't see it on the TV.

I believe the "crap" at the bottom of your capture is caused by head switching noise in your vcr. This happens in almost all vcrs (except some very high-end models), but as mentioned above, it is "hidden" in the overscan when played on a TV.
