    Hello.
Does anyone know what currently sold (16X) DVD-R's will work on a JVC DR-M10S dvd recorder? I'm trying Verbatim 16X but it shows 0 recording time remaining when I put in a new disc.
    Thanks!

According to the manual....it only supports 8x discs.

Oh that's great. 16X is what they have in the stores now.
I used up all my old slower discs.
What am I supposed to do scrounge around for 8X discs for the rest of this machine's life? They are pretty much gone now from store shelves.
    Is there a firmware update?
    Tanks.

I was always under the impression that a disk's speed rating was the MAX speed it could be written to. Meaning, anything under is acceptable. Since DVD recorders burn at 1X, it's always burning lower than the rated disk. So moot point.

Yeah all you need is 1X but like I said before no store carries 1,2,4X now. I might be able to find 8X in the clearance bin but not the brand I want and not for long. If 16X won't work on my unit and that's all there is then I'm screwed.

No, my point is as long as you are burning at 1X, speed rating on media does not matter. 1, 2, 3, 4 - 16x all is going to burn _real time_ at 1X.

That is, unless I am missing something.

Yes true if the machine will accept the disc. This machine, according to the manual, won't burn anything higher than 8X. All the media in stores is now 16X. So I guess I'm screwed unless there's a firmware update.

Weird. Guess I've got nothing then.

  10. Have you asked JVC if they have tested the M10 with any brands of X16 media? I have a Pioneer that can use X16 but they only tested with Sony, TY, TDK, Maxell, and MCC.

No I haven't asked JVC. How can I do that?
I didn't know I could just call up and ask them stuff.

My DR-M100S is recording on a 16x DVD-R MCC disc right this minute. I think I've already recorded one on my DR-M10S too in the recent past. I may try to record one on the 10 again tomorrow just to verify.

I use DVD-R's when all my DVD-RW's are full. Unlike the RW's though, I just toss the -R in the trash when done with it.

Please do LS and let me know what happens.
If it makes any difference my M10S was made in May 2004 and may be one that will get a loading error if I ever take it out of Power Save mode or use it very much. I haven't had it "fixed".

Also I haven't tried any other brand 16X DVD-R besides Verbatim. That's all I have. I bought piles of them on sale recently.

My DR-M10S is made in Japan, May 2004 build. I've not had mine fixed either, and it remains in "off" power save mode.

  15. I'm currently using 16x TDK DVD-R on both JVC DR-M10S and DR-MH30S without any issues so far.
