Hey, i was wondering if anyone could fix my very annoying problem.

Ive recently obtained a Surround sound home theater system (JVC), and when trying to listen to normal television, Satelite or PS2 through the surround sound speakers, theres always a 1/4 second time delay of sound. Sure 1/4 second doesnt sound like much, but it IS, and very annoying.

Someone told me that its due to analog signals being converted to digital and its not fixable, unless everything is broadcasted in digital.
Is this true? Surley there has to be some way.

    Thankyou in advance.

They are correct. There can also be a delay with digital signals (varies with hardware) such as when playing dvd's.

If the source is directly connected to the surround system, the delay (if any) should be minimal. If however, you have the PS2 connected to the VCR, and the VCR connected to the surround system, then that is most likely the result of the delay.

I think the delay settings Noahtuck was referring to would be the optional additional delay adjustment for the SURROUND speakers, not a system-wide delay for all Audio vs. Picture.

Tell us more how you have your system setup (connections, flow, etc). This sounds weird.

  6. Thats not too uncommon these days and is the reason most of the newer HT systems have a delay setting built into (setup screen). Even some DVD players have a user settable delay. My Oppo DVD player allows up to 50ms of delay.

    Yep, brainfart

If i have my TV on and then i turn on say my dvd recorder and my rec., if i don't switch over my TV so i am getting both video and audio through the recorder & rec. the audio & video will be out of sync, the audio will actually be behind the video because of the delay of going through everything.

so you should run your video through the same path as your audio.

    Heres my setup -

Basically satelite is connected direclty to tv via scart. PS2 connect directly to tv via scart. DVD player connect directly to tv via scart.
All speaker wires are connected to a subwoofer, and the subwoofer is connected to the dvd player via a wire (forget the name, its a small circular plug with loads of pins inside).

The way i can listen to surround sound is by going to the channel like i would normally (EXT1, EXT2), and then on the dvd i change the dvd channel to L1, and i get sound from whatever channel i tune to normally.

But theres like 1/3 sec delay, and sometimes the sound switches off by itself!

    Any thoughts?
