Audacity for filtering shortwave recordings?

I am setting up a computer to record short wave programming on my computer and am looking for something to filter out pops and hisses. Do you think Audacity would be suitable for that?

For hiss reduction, you can use the low pass filter and kill some of it. Pops are a little harder. You can limit the overall level, which may reduce the volume of a pop, but not eliminate it.

The type of audio you are working with is usually narrow bandwidth, so can be filtered without as much quality loss as something like DVD audio.

There are probably also some active filters that may be able to reduce some of the noise. These would be used on the audio out of the receiver.

But give the Audacity a try, it's freeware, so you have little to lose but a some time.
