I am now using an MSI K8N Diamond Plus and windows xp x32 for now.
I installed OS fine etc, but once I put dvd decrypter on I got this error message; (first picture)

although if I disable the thing in question, the program still works.

But now I tried installing PowerDVD 6 and I get this error: (second picture, "catasrophic error")

It clearly related to my IDE channel/Drives once they are tried to be detected by each program but i dont know whats causing it. Bare in mind that the drives are 100% fine, I just dont know if its a driver issue or (hopefully not) the motherboard.
    Has anyone seen this before?

That's a new one to me. Basically, the first error is just about the new disc notification. On most PC's the message can be disabled. Though I never needed to do that for my install. Not sure about the 2nd one.

EDIT: According to Google'ing, some versions of PowerDVD have problems with DualCore CPUs.

    the parameter is incorrect
error message is received usually when the partition table refering to an item you are attempting to access is improperly written or corrupted.
How his relates to the optical burn processes is a mystery to me

Well I dont have any real advice but I really doubt the two problems are related. I did a quick search and found that the DVD Decrypter error is common with that drive and that it doesn't cause any problems to just ignore it. I've seen people get that error and not have any other problems with software dvd players and such. Now if you were getting errors using PowerDVD than maybe it could be in the detection of your drive, but not if you are just installing it. You don't even need an IDE drive to install it. Damn PowerDVD just gives you no useful information in its error. Maybe try a trial version of some other software player and see if it gives you a more meaningful error, or better yet doesn't crash.

EDIT: I just realized how asinine my post was. Obviously you are installing the software from a cd via your drive. Maybe try copying the disc contents to your pc and install from there to rule out the possibility that the drive is causing problems as data is read from it during installation. I still don't think its the drive though. If data could not be read from the drive you'd surely get a different error.

mattyboy:I think you missunderstood redrudz. He knows you waited 3 hours, that is far too soon to bump your own topics. Please review the forum rules

    https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=124514

Please try not to "bump" your topic.
Replying to your own topic to get it to the top is annoying. Try to have some patience, this is a bulletin board, not IRC. It may take some time (e.g., one or two days) before someone can answer your query or question.
