  1. Hi, you guys! I was wondering if this is already possible, using dvd authoring softs... can we rip a dvd, and remove only a line or some of the subtitles(ex: "I love MONICA!... i want to remove that, and i want to put/add "I love Jessica!"... huh, is just an example), add another line/subtitle instead(in the place of the one we removed), and, if possible, remove the menu, and adding another menu?
I don't want to make piracy... the thing is, i already authored, 4 years ago, some dvd's to a group of people, and i simple lost the back up's of the projects(subs, and the whole everything), and i want to make the same dvd's for other group of people, BUT, i have to change only the name of the group(and also, i have to change the name on the menu, too), but, i don't want to do it all over again... i could rip the script with subrip, etc... but commands like colour, space, place on the screen, they never are the same as the original scripts... not to mention the various chapters that i have made... if i rip the dvd, they will disappear, and i'll have to mark the chapters all over again, and author all over again on the same old way... please somebody help me!!! Thank you so much!

BTW, i used dvd Maestro to author those dvd's.

Hi. Yeah, i was thinking the same... BUT, do you think there is a way to re-author this(doing that alterations/changes)... in a "soft, easy and fast" way(than doing all over again, in the hard way), eheh?
    THX!

    That's contradictorily...
The subs are stored in a compressed (RLE) format within the vob file. Therefore just changing one single subtitle could be done onla if the compressed new sub has exactly the same length (in bytes) as the original one. That would be hard to achieve...
The other possibility is to demux (all vobs of the movie!) to elementary streams, edit the sup (also not very easy, as it is a binary subtitle format) and remux again. You can have a look to DVDSubEdit, maybe there is a possibility to do something like this with this program.

THX a lot, Borax, i'll try that later. I already authored again 3, from 15 dvd's(from the project i've said), urgh... on the "old and long way"... sitting in front of the computer 20 hours straight(my hemorrhoids will be back SOON, i can feel it...) "soft, easy and fast" are really contradictorily things in my life...

The latest version of DVDSubEdit (1.2) can erase parts of the text, but it can't replace it with another text (that's much much more difficult). So you could remove some of the lines, but you couldn't add anything back, sorry.
To be fair, you can change the subtitle so that its compressed length is smaller than the original (no problem with that). It's only when it's larger that you can run into problems.

MenuShrink a free tool to shrink menus into stills with or without audio!
DVDSubEdit: a free tool to modify your subtitles directly inside the vob.
