    I've been looking into upgrading my PowerMac's Video card with something that will play the higher definition movies. I was also looking for something cheap, aren't we all? So, after hanging out at Strangedogs.com, I decided to give the nVidia FX5500 a go. It was cheap, a deal at Newegg gave me the PC card for $39, after rebate.

    I borrowed a PC, flashed the video card with the Mac rom provided by Strangedogs, and I now have a nVidia FX5500 running in my Sawtooth. Yes, a Sawtooth that has a 2X AGP port! It works great! A little feud is going on between Strangedogs and one of their former members. So Strangedogs is running a few 'specials' that results in good deals for the rest of us.

    Now I'm seriously considering a 'Strangedogs Special' FX 6600 for my FW800 Dual G4. The 6600 is a 'better' card than the ATI 9800 which is the best card you can get for a G4 elsewhere. Check it out;

    Hey now! They found another card flashable!

    Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll upgrade the Radeon 7500 in my works G4 that I flashed from a PC card.

    However, new nVidias need 128kb flash chip, always. Most PC cards are 64kb. Have you read everything, you would know.

    Ati is better choice

    Well yes, they have found quite a few 'other' cards that can be flashed. Without the need to add a 128kb EEPROM. Since reading was mentioned, for the ones that need a larger EEPROM;
    If you have been debating purchasing a card from "Im_A_MAc_user", I will flash whatever card he is selling for FREE !!!! AND WITH A BETTER ROM!!!!!
    Simply PM me for a mailing address. By "Free" I mean no profit for me. You will need to pay for an EEPROM chip ($1.75) and return shipping ($6). ENclose the card to be flashed along with a check or cash for $7.75.

    In other words, they will install the EEPROM for you;
    If you have a PC 6600GT send it to me with $40, I will install a 128K chip, flash, and test.
    Note: Your 66GT should be tested in WIndows first with 3D Mark 2003 or 2005 and WATCH while it runs. Only if the card shows no artifacts in every test should you expect Mac card to run the same.
    The BFG I have done is able to run at 575/575. Mighty darn fast, but they are more $$$$.
    The pre-flashed ones I sell will be PNY or XFX, still DUal-DVI.

    Or just buy a preflashed, preinstalled EEPROM, pretested card from them;
    Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT Awesome G4/G5 option !!!!
    Dual DVI and it kicks DIRT in the 9800's face.
    Will be $200 & shipping.

    Referring to the FX 6200 for a CUBE;
    So, if you live in LA, PM me and you can get your own card and bring it by with your Cube. $45 gets you the card flashed, 128 K ROM chip added, transistor fan fix mod done, bracket custom cut and card installed. In addition, I have a variety of monitors here for testing, right on up to 1920x1200 DVI.
    Or send me the card with $50 and I will do mods and mail back to you, fully tested and with custom bracket.
    Or send me $185 and I will do everything. If you have questions about this card, please post them here.
    There are many other alternatives, as well as a large number of flashable cards. Even quite a few ATIs, if that's what floats yer boat 8)
    Just read the forum. I'm not trying to sell you anything, just pointing out that some Video cards that you can't normally buy for a Mac can be made to work, for a lot less than you can't buy them for

    Let's see, where can I buy a Core Video compatible card for my Sawtooth for $40.......

    They may be doing mod for you for 40$, but there is absolutely no need for mod, when using R9200, 9250 or 9800. I know, since I have flashed all of those.

    There are more HW-versions among nVidia based cards than Ati based, most Ati cards stick to reference design. If it's 9800Pro, has red PCB and 8 memory chips, it's likely to work. No matter, what brand.

    It's also more likely to have all features working on Ati based cards (S-video/composite out, DVI), since Apple has slightly different DVI-implementation than most PC nVidias, Apple uses separate TDMS.

    BTW, whatever brand you choose, check the AGP-connector keying, there has to be 2 keyholes for Sawtooth, Cube and GE. Card has to be AGP Universal. Usually packets claim only AGP 4x and 8x compatiblity, even if they are 2x too.

    I'm not sure of what you are trying to say here. Are you trying to say that they are trying to charge you for a mod that is not required? Because they ARE NOT trying any such thing. If a mod is needed, they will charge you for it. If not, they don't. It's that simple.

    No, you don't need to mod certain ATI or, for that matter, nVidias. IT'S ALL ON THEIR SITE! Including instructions for flashing non-modded 9200s & 9800s. They will give you instructions AND a FREE ROM for those cards. What more could you ask for? The total cost of the new Un-modded 5500 I have working in my Sawtooth was $39, paid to Newegg and no one else.

    Again, READ THEIR FORUM!

    If I misunderstood your intentions concerning your first paragraph, then sorry. Otherwise....READ THEIR FORUM!

    BTW miksu, you say you have a working FLASHED 9250? Maybe you can Help out this Guy.
    Give it a shot 8)
