    This box is working good at reading and writing disks, doesn't matter what kind and I can watch them on my other dvd player. The one problem I would love to fix is the screen gets real bright when a bright scene or sunlight is present. The service tech emailed me back and said might be tuner circuitry and exchange it which I did and it is the same. I wonder if there is a way to record from the tv through the front connections and if that might fix the bright problems? Maybe run it to the vcr then out to tv and out to the recorder. Has anyone figured this out or have any suggestions.

    These use cheap mono tuners. Best is to record directly to the svideo or composite video inputs and bypass the tuner. That's the only way to correct for difficiencies in these cheap recorders...
