Streaming Media - resource recommendations?

Any recommendations for resources (Web sites, books, magazines) which cover the arena of streaming media from a NON-proprietary vantage point? (I know I can go to apple.com, microsoft.com, real.com, macromedia.com, etc. for THEIR info.)

I suppose I am looking for _THE_ seminal resource for everything you wanted to know about streaming media.

I design and build Web sites, and I want to learn about the CURRENT standards and trends for publishing audio and video to my clients' Web sites. (Years ago, all I worked with were .rm, .ram, .smil files with RealProducer. The options are many more and complex now. Help! Thanks.)

PS: If you're about to tell me to google "streaming media", save your fingers. I say this with all respect. Been there, done that. I'm looking for YOUR best recommendations. Thanks.

There are different projects out there for streaming various types of media. Rather you mean Audio or Video will make a huge difference, now I assume just audio because of the section we are in.

Next question would be a live stream or a prerecorded stream?
