Sorry for this long message. The problem may be a challenge.

I was trying to get a Frameserver from Premier to TMPGenc set up, was having problems getting it to work, and read a post that said to install the Kristal STudio Codec 4.3.3. I am running XP Pro. I installed it, and during the install, it said that the mpg4ds32.ax file was older than the one on the system, so I didn't overwrite it. And, I also got a warning from XP that the program wasn't certified for XP (which happens with most programs I install), but I installed anyway. It "appears to work". (read on) if you have the time.

To make a longer story a little shorter, I ended up installing the 093 Video Server Package (codec still installed), and the Frame Server seems to work...but...

Couple problems and questiosn:

1. When I use the SVCD template that comes with TMPGenc, the video has a lot of sounds in the video that sound like a morris code. I tried reinstalling the Codec, and went ahead and overwrote the file mentioned earlier (saved the other in case I have to put it back).Do you think this has to do with that Codec? If so, what Codec should I get, and if you know, where?

2. Many people suggest select variable bit rate, instead of constant. If I set the settings in TMPGenc manually to MPEG2, with VBR, and 44.1, it seems to create a file that sounds fine. But when I try to drop it into Nero, Nero tells me it's not a compliant file. The error ways it is a streaming file, or something to that effect.

3. Getting the same morris code problem when I directly encode the AVI file rather than frameserved from Premier.

A little more info: The AVI file I am having this problem with is one I captured from a Beta VCR that I have some other issues with (another post on this site on that). But the AVI seems to play with no sounds like that, and it plays fine in Adobe Premier. I encoded a different AVI file directly from TMPGenc, and it seems fine. I exported the edited AVI (the one that I've been having the problems with) from Adobe to an AVI, instead of Frameserving. The AVI works fine. But when I encode with TMPGenc...same problem. I took the AVI that I exported from Premier, and I used Nero to convert to MPEG2 and burnt it to CD. It works fine, plays on my DVD. Lastly, I encoded the "problematic AVI" to an MPG1 file, VCD, direct with TMPGenc, and it works fine also.

So, my problem is definitely MPEG2 from TMPGenc. By the way, it is version 2.02.31.119. (I haven't downloaded 2.5. Haven't read much positive about it yet.)

Any recommendations?
