    Is firewire file sharing possible?>

Or would it be best to go with a Network card.

I will be capturing video on one system and moving it to anouther.

CD burning would take to long and usb is to slow (neither support USB 2.0)

    I was thinking firewire transfer.

    Is this possible?

What is the special cable u need to hook two computers togather via eithernet. Does compusa sell it?

The capture system has windows 98 and the retriving laptop has Windows Me, soon to be Windows XP Home. (it's free)

  2. I believe it is however I'm not sure if you can do it with 98. I would go to the microsoft website and check it out. If both machines were running ME than i'm pretty sure it would be ok. A friend of mine used to use the firewire for transfer before he set up a network. Actually I think the network would be a better choice but it does normally mean additional cost.

Well, for home networking, Wal_mart carries a linkysys ROUTER and Ethernet card kit for about $100. You would need a ethernet card in both PC's. If you wanna share the net access with MS ICS (sucks!) you could replace the router with a hub however. Just spend the extra for the router, its worth it.

  4. Firenet works fine with 98SE. I have one PC with W98SE and Pyro card and another with W2k and Creative Audigy. Firenet comes with Audigy, but Pyro had only "sampler", which worked only 30 mins after reboot, but you can obtain license from Unibrain. Firenet works fine and with speed 400Mb/s and is easy to install. It supports also ICS.

I know you don't like USB, cause it's slow. I feel the same way as you, but
I really needed a way to transfer files w/out bogging down my capture and
encoding process. But this was the cheapest, and I needed it fast!!

    What I use is USB Cables. Two versoin... a 6' @ $9 and a 16' @ $19

I got at CompUSA for $19 for a 16' USB cable network. Not much software to
load. Just one simple app (driver and exploer-like), and that's pretty much it.
I transfer my video clips from one pc to the next this. Speed?? well, I'm not
transfering gigs and what'not, but for a cheap (really cheap) network-like
transfer, this was a sure bet!!

All it is is a usb end on each end and plugs into you usb.
when you're ready to transfer file(s), you start this app "PC-Linq" - need both
to be running on each PC. It's not the greatest full-featured network app, but
when I need to do quick copies or transfers, this is the quickest so far... minus
    the $$$

  7. You can set up a connection via ethernet pretty easily and cheaply. If you don't already have the cards you can get them for $20 or less. THen all you need is a "cross-over ethernet cable"( not a regular one), and then just set up the network on both comps.

I think I will attempt to set up a "firenet" by adding an IEE 1934 PCI bus.
