  1. I wasn't sure where to post this, but I have a VHS videotape that is in PAL format. What do I need to watch this video (ie. software/equipment) and perhaps convert it into DVD format so I can watch on a regular dvd player?

    Thanks!

A desktop dvd recorder would be easiest.

Do you have a VCR that supports pal? Are you going to convert to NTSC?

  3. How much does a desktop dvd recorder cost? I'm on a very limited budget. And no I don't have a VCR that support pal. And yes I would like to convert it to NTSC.

You would need a VHS player that can play PAL VHS tapes.

Depending on where you live, you may find a video service that can do the conversion.

If you could get the PAL video into your computer there are methods to convert to NTSC DVD, but better quality would be to keep it in PAL format and use a DVD player that can also play PAL.

    But, software conversions: https://www.videohelp.com/convert#4;41

As far as getting it into the computer, a capture card, etc. Too much to cover unless you have something more specific.

Do you know any place to get a cheap Pal VHS player? I also currently have a capture card in my computer. I guess I just need the software to convert it.

Although I hate to say it, Ebay. It seems a waste to buy a PAL VHS player for just one tape. If you look at Ebay, be careful, especially on a used deck. Make sure the PAL player will work on US power, also.

For new ones, this is one company that sells multiformat players: http://www.world-import.com/vcr.htm

That's why I suggested a conversion service, unless you plan on doing this more often.
