  1. Hi All,

    I have searched all over many forums for an answer but yet to get a definitive one.

    I have two stand alone DVD players that are DivX certified and too date I have had little/no problem playing any files, recently this has changed, although all of these files play on my PC some newer ones are not playing on my standalones - FIRMWARE I here you all scream, but been there and tried that with no success - for ref the standalones are;

    Ellion DVD-520C Mpeg-4 Player
    Shinco - SDP-1850

    I thought this could be a Codec issue and used AVICodec to try and find a trend, think I've found it.

    All files without exception are on the Xvid Mpeg-4 codec, the difference being that the files that won't play have a different Audio Codec, the ones that are fine are - MPEG Layer-3 - the ones that won't play are AC3 DVM.

    Is this just a coincidence or the cause of my problems and if it is how can I re-encode the audio to MPEG Layer-3 as I know this works fine.

    Thanks in advance

  2. Use MPEG4Modifier to check the MPEG4 files for GMC and QPEL -- two optional features of both Xvid and Divx that most set-top players can't handle.

    If that's not a problem then the AC3 audio might be. It's easy enough to convert the audio to MP2/3 without reencoding the video. With VirtualDub:

    File -> Open Video File
    Video -> Direct Stream Copy
    Audio -> Full Processing Mode
    Audio -> Conversion (change to anything you want)
    Audio -> Compression (select MP2/3 codec and parameters)
    File -> Save as AVI.

    There is also a divx test cd here: https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers

    This will help you find out which files your players can handle.
