Bitsetting

I have two LG burners... My 4140b supports bittsetting... My 4160b does not and it has the latest firmware A306...

question #1 - Can I change booktype ona DVD+R disc to DVD-ROM in my 4140b and then burn that disc in my 4160b burner


question #2 - on my 4140b I use Nero to burn my DVD+Rs and I have Nero set to change the booktype to DVD-ROM... If question # 1 is YES...then using DVDInfoPro - do I change the booktype before or after burning a DVD+R...???

The LG GSA 4160B is the only 416x generation LG that does not support bitsetting. Has been considered a great mystery over at the CDFreaks LG Forum for quite some time now. No one seems to know why LG chose to not support Bitsetting on that model. What's even stranger is that bitsetting is supported on the 5160B which is the external version of the same drive (same chipset and hardware). I think you may be out of luck on this issue.

You may also want to experiment a little with discs utilizing and not utilizing bitsetting to see if your standalone even needs it. In my experience, quality and brand of media have more effect on whether or not a disc will work than if it is bitset or not. I've also found that using -R media is much more reliable and compatible than +R media. I tend to use -R media for my movies and +R media only for computer use. But that is just my experience.
