Here's a good & incredibly cheap generic cartridge called Q-ink, which costs a small fraction of genuine Epson cartridges:

blankmedia.ca is the best Canadian supplier of blank media, DVD/CD cases and printer ink. I've been buying Q-ink for my Epson Stylus 2500 for about a year, and both black & colour cartridges work perfectly (although of course Epson states that use of non-genuine ink will void your warranty)
Note that the prices are in Canadian $, which would be about half as much in UK pounds.
You may not wish to order from Canada, but I'd suggest you search for a UK or European supplier of Q-ink (which I assume to be manufactured in Asia, but there's no detail on the box or the cartridge).
Hope this helps.
