I downloaded this freeware and so far so good in terms of making data backup DVDs. The problem is burning speed. I have a brand new NEC 16x recorder and I'm using brand new 8x Maxell dvds. Thus far, the highest speed I can burn at is 4x--which means it takes two hours to burn one dvd. Is a higher speed not possible with this freeware?

    Thanks.

I have a 4x burner, so pretty much everything I burn is at 4x. 4X should take approx 14 minutes 30 seconds for a single layer disc. Even at 1x a single layer disc should take around an hour, not two.

Have you tried the burning software that came with your burner ?

You filled a 4.7gb dvd in 14 minutes using 4x? Sounds impossible.

Do it every time. 4x should fill a disc in approx 14 minutes 38 seconds (give or take a few seconds). 16x with 16x media should burn in around 6 minutes. 8x should come in around the middle at around 10 minutes.

You also need to remember that a disc is not written to at the top speed. The speed will build up over the burn, possibly starting around 4x and building up as the burn moves across the platter. Full speed (be it burner speed or disc speed) may only be achieved and maintained for a quarter of the burn time or less. The is more evident the faster the burner.

    Speed is alway's constant ... check you spec's .

If burn speed selected is 4x , then that's what it is burnt at across the disc ... it dosent go faster .

This is due to cas and cav spec's ...
