    Hi everyone,
This is my first post. If there is an answer to my question already posted,I am sorry, but I have been trying to find one without success.
I started capturing my collection of VHS tapes (Nascar races). Some are going on 11yrs old,and actually the quality is still pretty darn good.
I am going to have quite a few well over 8 gig. The first biggy I captured is 13.7 gig, about 3hr 18min. It is editted down to that size. I was thinking of trying ConvertXtoDVD,but if I understand correctly,it will be downsized to fit a single layer.

Is it possible to knock down the quality just enough to fit a dual layer??

I did use the trial version. It resized the 13.7gig to 4.3gig,I did notice some
falloff in quality.I know VHS quality isn't going to be very good, but I don't want to sacrifice anymore quality than I absolutely have to.

My card is a Hauppauge WinTV PVR 250. I capture in 12.0 Mbit/sec.
My burner is a Plextor PX-716A.
I bought a new VCR (Sony SLV-N750) dedicated for the computer.
I use Verbatim DVD+R DL (already made 3 coasters).
I use VideoReDo Plus for edit.
I have Ulead MovieMaker 4 and Nero Ultra 7.
    Thanks
    Greg
any help would be appreciated....dual layers are expensive coasters

ConvertXtoDVD has a dual layer setting. None of the software you are using is recommended for dual layer success however.

    Your other options are :

    1. Use a standalone encoder (tmpgenc, CCE Basic, Procoder Express) and a bitrate calculator to encode correctly, then use a dual layer capable authoring program,

    2. Use a standalone encoder, but resize to half-D1 resolution (acceptable for VHS source) and encode to fit on a single layer disc.

single layer are a lot cheaper - even using two ..

you can fit about 2-3 hours easy of vhs source on a dvd ...
