I have a few hundred music clips captured from tv that are in a mpg format and around 200 mb each.

I've made dvds of the clips but also wanted to keep them on the pc to watch but need them to be at a reduced size. I used nero to convert one to xvid and got it doen form 200 mb to around 22 mb. I know there is a drop in quality but as a trade off between drop in quality and size i'm perfectly happy with it - looks fine on the pc.

Thing is i can't see anyway to batch converet in nero, it looks like i have to do each file at a time. This will take ages with nero so i had a lok elsewhere. One that i looked at was alltoavi, which looked perfect yet when i convert a file to xvid (picking high quality) it's noticeably worse quality than nero.

Can anybody reccomend a good convertor that has a batch mode ? I was surprised at alltoavi as it was highly rated. It doesn't have to be xvid or divx i would probably be happy with wmv if i got reasonable quality at a small size.
In the actual allto avi program there aren't many settings for the xvid codec - perhaps i should change settings in the actual xvid codec before running alltoavi.
These clips don't have to be of the highest quality as i am happy with the dvds i've made just wanted some small clips to keep on the pc.

    Anyway thanks for any help

Is there a good command line tool that will do the same? Need to go from MGP to avi (Divx or Xvid)
