    This is my first post EVER, so excuse my lack of "technical" terms. I purchased 2 Mad Dog DVD writers. Once installed, they worked fine, but for some reason, Windows DOESN'T read them now. I get a code 37 message, "Windows can't initialize the device driver for this hardware." Can anyone Help me with this? Much appreciated.

    What you need to do is remove the Upper Filters and Lower Filters from the Registry. I'm taking a wild stab in the dark, but did you uninstall a burning program and install a new one that came with the Mad Dogs?

    Here's a short fix:
    Click Start-->Run and type regedit and click ok. On the left had side, navigate to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\
    {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    Inside this key, you will see a value titled UpperFilter and LowerFilter. Right-click on each and select delete. The re-install your burning program.

    Hope this helps.

    Navigated to where you said, but no such luck finding the upper & lower "whatcha micallit."I did find out why the computer wasn't reading the drives. When I loaded the Roxio 7.5 the drives would disappear. I called Mad Dog and they said because I have Nero, my computer is "confused" as to which program to use. So I just uninstalled it. is there a way I can use them both? Thanx

    The only way I managed to have them both, and this was in the days of versions 4 and 5, was to not install the Drag-N-Drop software (DirectCD for Roxio, InCD for Nero). Haven't really used either versions for a while now, as I've stuck to Sonic RecordNow. You would probably have to do a custom install for both of them. If I remember right, the conflicting file is called something like SCSI1HLP.vxd, someone here may know the exact file.

    Also, I don;t think the opinion here of Easy CD Creator and Nero are very high, they seem to have fallen out of favor due to the extra junk they tend to throw in, along with bad burns. I don't remember having too much of an issue with either one, but a lot of members will probably recommend you stay away from both of them.

    Wow. Thanks for the info. I just started burning "back ups" about 6mths ago. I'm fairly wet behind the ears. If you can recommend a better burning program, it would be appreciated. Also, is there a way to burn from the harddrive to both burners? It would save me a little time, probably not much but something. Thanx.

    Later versions of Nero support multiple burners, but I've never used it. I've read other posts here about people who have, and I think the general concensus is that it slows down to the point where it as almost as quick to burn the prject twice. If you're serious enough to have a need to burn more than one disk at a time, you'll probably need a stand-alone duplicator.

    Again, I'd recommend Sonic RecordNow Max, or a combination of DVDShrink and DVD Decryptor. Back up to an ISO with Shrink, then burn with Decryptor.

    I've also used Prassi Ones. I'm not overly impressed with it, but I'm not disappointed either. What's most important is what works for you and your player(s). If your players have no issue with discs burned by Nero, and they're only going to be watched on your players, it's not overly important what seems to be "the best", especially since that's an opinion everyone is entitled to have of their own.

    So, did you solve the problem after uninstalling Roxio 7.5?

  9. Nero 6.0 onwards is supposedly supports all burners. And it is not so bloated like Nero 7. Why don't try it out?
    I use two DVD burners at the same time using Nero 6 - the second one BenQ DW1650 had not been born even when I had installed Nero 6 with the first burner Pioneer DVR-107D and both are supported equally well individually and simultaneously as I need.

    As you see there's a conflict between packet writing modules. Use custom install and omit them (it's covered on Nero site) or decide which one to use Roxio or Nero if you want to default-install both.
