I waswondering today if it is possible:

make fancy menus in sonic dvdit or mydvd 6.0 for movies which r not in vob format(coz dvdit and mydvd dont support vob i suppose)

then burn dvd folder to hard disk and abort process when dvd menu has been outputed and the movie transcoding is started...so that i have got my menu for dvd (ahh yes very nice 1 from those 2 softwares)

then i put my converted movie files (vob)in the same sequence i have done to make menus and then burn the DVD

is this possible so that i can have nice piece of DVD with fancy looking menus

Sorry but i cant experiement this coz dont want to waste a single DVD
but i can wait for some hourse to get answered

    Thx

You can exepriment because you can always playback form the HDD first (which you should do before burning anyway).

It probably won't work, or if it does this time, it may not next time.

Why don't you demux the VOB files back to video and audio so you can uathor properly, instead of trying to pull some stupid trick to save youself a few minutes ?

DVD Menus are made in an authoring program. If you want fancy menus, you should look to programs like DVD-Lab or DVD-Lab Pro or similar. A simple authoring program is TMPGEnc DVD Author. If your program is just an encoder and doesn't output VOBS, IFOs, etc., it doesn't sound like it's an authoring program.

Look to our guides to the left under 'AUTHOR' to see methods to do what you want. <<<<<<<

I get the impression is he happy with the menus these simple programs churn out, however his videos are in VOB format (probably because he used something like WinAVI to create them) and his authoring software can't import VOB source material.

guns1inger, you may be right. I stay away from most all-in-one DVD programs for the type of problems he mentions.

enli2, I use a separate encoder to produce the MPEG-2 file, then a separate authoring program to generate the menus and create the DVD format.

If you want control over the quality and the look of your menus and of the finished DVD, the individual programs are generally the best way to go. We have lots of guides to show you how to do this, but it takes a bit of reading and studying.

You should not use an authoring tool that transcodes material that is already compliant.
