  1. I have taken old Hi8 videos of my son in track and put them through my Sony TRV30 to upload into digital format on my Sony Vaio with XP, 2.1GHz,Pentium 4, 80 Gig, 512RAM. Now I want to burn to a CD or Video CD in decent resolution so I can put it into DVD player or PC CD Rom. What is a good program for a beginner. I bought "Digital Studio" Software which has the "Video Wave" Software Program. Is this a decent Program?

  2. Not familiar with that program. Most people here use TMPGenc (as it's free). You can d/load the newest verison (and it's VFAPI plugin) from http://www.tmpgenc.com

For best quaility... well this i a never ending source of debate If your source runtime is less than 40min the easiest thing to do is to use the standard SVCD template and make a SVCD.

If your Hi8 source is interlaced, MPEG2/SVCD supports interlaced source, MPEG1/VCD does not.

Most DVD players can play SVCD, all PCs can play VCD or SVCD. However, while a PC can play a VCD w/ media player you'd have to d/load a MPEG2 codec/player to play SVCDS (see the play section to the left).

See the convert section to the left for more info on TMPGenc.

Use TMPGenc to convert to a VCD MPEG. Then burn it with Nero. Or some other burning software. This site explains all of that in the How To Section on the Left Side of this site.
