  1. I was fixing a "repeating sound" problem of my kids computer. When I folow the instruction and turn off directx-9 sound accereration ( to no acceration ). Now Direct-X 9 gray out all the control, and say the PC does not a sound card anymore !

At the same time, Power DVD also loose its sound. But the I still get made sound with control panel.

I can only fixed it with re-sinatll the sound driver ( an VIA vinyl sound chip on MOBO ), and re-boot.

From the sequence, it is an microsoft Direct-x 9 issue ( I assume turn off hardware acceration for sound ) will loose the direct X sound.

Is there a fix or work around ?

First I would uninstall Power DVD. Then install the latest sound drivers from the MB manufacturer or chipset. Then reinstall the latest version of DirectX. THen reinstall Power DVD.

You can also run the dxdiag program to check if directx is setup/running correctly.
