  1. Does anyone know how to locate sound effects in Playstation/PS2 games? I can find music and voiceovers on PS1 games, but never any spot effects like doors being opened or guns being fired.

    Im trying to find FX in:

    - Syphon Filter 1 and 2
    - Spyro (1 to 3)
    - Hitman 2
    - Hitman Contracts

    Ive Googled for some information but had zero luck. PSMPlay, PSound and other PS audio rippers are useless, as they dont extract sound FX.

    Ive never seen any posts about this before, so I dont know if its allowed or anything. Apologies if its not.

    Thanks anyway.

    It's hard to say; I don't know about PS2 games, but I assume they follow the same trend as PSX games... that is, each game more than likely stores their sounds in different formats. Some PSX games did indeed store their sound effects in .xa files, if you were willing to do quite a bit of digging, while a Resident Evil game might have stored it in something else, Capcom fighters in different files, and Final Fantasy games generated nearly everything through PCM...

    ...well, you get the general idea. ^_^;

    The programs you mentioned below do handle sound effects in PS games - but only if they're within the files each supports... and even then, you might have to cue through a lot of material to find them.
    If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

  3. Can you gimme a hint as to what format these sound FX will be in please? I can only ever find XAs or STRs of voiceovers, cutscenes and music, but I want the actual sounds.

    Probably not, unfortunately. As I mentioned above, it's often unique for each game (some also generate their effects in real-time), and I also don't have any of those games to look at.
