  1. I have a JVC GR-D94U camera and have been using my firewire connection to capture video for awhile now. All of a sudden I can't get a firewire conenction. The firewire port is present in "device manage" and my camera shows up in "my computer".

I have tried diferent software, I have unistalled my firewire drive and reinstalled, but to no avail? I have a 4 pin connection on the camera and a 6 pin port on the computer. I am not sure if that could be causing the problem, but it did work fine for a long time??

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi
Have you updated to SP2 recently? There are known problems with XP SP2 and firewire. Try the following links.

No the 6 pin connections carry power which the cam doesn't need. The extra two on the 6 pin end of your cable are just dummy connections.

Trouble shooting cam connections can be tough sometimes, my first suggestion would be to see if you can another computer to recognize the cam. If there is a problem with the cam or the cable..... you could spend days trying to figure it out.

I had this problem a few weeks ago where my computer would sometimes recognize a firewire connection and sometimes not.

In device drivers I notice the little yellow Exclamation point and re-installed the drivers and it has been good to go ever since.

  5. I tried my Father N Law's camera with my cable and got the same result. Good sign here is that my camera may be ok. I use WIN DV and just like my camera, it recognized his camera, and started to play when I hit capture. It is at that point that I get the error.

With Imagemixer, it didn't even recognize his camera. I think I now need to buy a new cable and try that.
