  1. I have been experimenting with captures and I ran into some problems.

I am using VirtualDub 1.4.7. I set the deinterlace filter to combine the two fields into one. I was capturing at 29.97 fps.

When I looked at the captured files with Media Player any light colored object quickely moving across a dark background produced horizontal stripes at the light / dark edge. These stripes look like what I would expect on an interlaced display. But I set VirtualDub to deinterlace.

Shouldn't these stripes be gone? Am I doing something wrong. What can I do to remove these stripes? I am thinking that this is causing noise when I encode it to mpeg2.

    Please help. TIA

  2. First, if your capturing from a true interlaced source (VHS, TV program, etc) you can't really de-interlace it. There will always be artifacts where the fields are blended/forced together.

However, MPEG2/SVCD supports interlace source. So if you're making (x)SVCDs you do not have to deinterlace.
