NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 128MB is my card.
ok, i have a problem with playing back videos with this card
its something to do with hardware accelaration, the problem is the picture quality of videos come's out more dull and darker with full hardware accelaration mode but doesnt slow the pc at all, with the hardware accelaration off the picture quality comes out fine, sharp and clear, but the pc runs much slower. i have another pc which works completely fine with a 64MB card. could anyone help me with what this problem could be about? thanks![]()

Is it all videos? Or just some types?
Is it any better if you play a video through Video Lan?
Worth a try I guess... -

1. the purpose of the hardware acceleration...is to allow the graphic card to do a lot of the work that normally would have been done by the cpu processor!! end result of this things are faster..... for gamers this is fantastic they get more cpu "speed" avail for there games.. turning off the hardware accleration well now the cpu processor has to do allll the work and hesne things slow up....!!!
2. now depending on the graphic chips involved sometimes there are problems with graphic display using normal programs... and a common remedy is to disable acceleration.... as rule the issue goes way.. and there no impact unless some like to play those intensive games... smile...
3. now it seems like there is a difference between graphic chips on how well they handle information when graphic accelerationis used..... from my research it seems like ati chips more fully support things than let say ndvidea... i am no where near knowlegeable enugh to discuss that area..lol...
bottom line... it becomes clear why when you turn off hardware acc.... picture quality improves but overall system slows down......
the only answer i can't give is why on t he other system you don't see any difference at all... unless
a. the other system a lot faster and it just not noicable
b. the graphic card in the others system besides working better there other factors we dont' know about.... definitely this is about the limit of my knowledge...... but i hope it give some ideas what going and you can find the answer and hopefylly thire is a fix...
possibliy you may need to go to their website... there forum, if they have one..... find answers there.... -
If its the same in VLC then its not a codec and is the card.
Has it always been this bad because it sounds like maybe a hardware problem? The only thing really left to try IMO is formatting windows from the ground up.
BTW ignore any suggestion that involves a "codec pack" -
If you have tried updating your graphics drivers (one or more times) clutter can get left behind, and weird things can happen (though this may not be your case).
One nice utility program I have used in the past to help with graphic card driver problems is drivercleaner
http://www.drivercleaner.net/
It removes all traces of old video (it can also do sound and motherboard) drivers, allowing for a clean fresh install of the latest (or desired) version.
When I last used it (a little over a year ago I think) it was free, and the main version still is.
It is worth a shot before trying a fresh install, however I hate to say this, but my bet is on a hardware problem with the card. I think I read of a similar problem on another forum regarding an FX series card, and replacing it fixed the issue.... but I could be mistaken as I have been unable to find the board/post again. Some people say dog is mans best friend. I say that man is dog's best slave... At least that is what my dogs think. -
If your normal screen is fine but your videos play darkly then it is the overlay that is at issue. To fix find your overlay settings in the advanced section of your graphic drivers - adjust the overlay brightness, gamma ect. If you can't find them, try installing old or third party graphic drivers.
Brightness and contrast can be adjusted from the Overlay properties page
found in nVidia Settings. From NVidia Settings in the system tray, go to
NVIDIA Display -> name monitor model. Under the words " Apply color changes to:" select Overlay from the drop down list, and make the adjustment while a video clip is playing.
