  1. I was under the impression that installing FFDShow, which is supposed to be 'safer' than installing the divx codec, was sufficient to encode an old Laurel and Hardy divx movie to dvd. I've discovered that this is not the case.

    Virtualdub also complains that it "couldn't locate decompressor for format DX50 'unknown'".

    In the FFDShow 'video encoding configuration' window I did as you advised the but same problem remains.
