We're trying to back up a movie with DVD Shrink. Everything goes fine until the burning stage. When the burning commences, we get this error (sorry for all the text):

You realise that DVDShrink doesn't actually do the burning - it's Nero, right ?

Perhaps try outputting to an ISO Image and burning with DVDDecrypter.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Yes, the error happens when burning with nero. I have also tried DVD Decrypter, and I get the same result. I did a screen shot of the error I will post it.

    Thanks<image link edited out - serial # in screen shot> /Mats Moderator

Have dvdshrink create an iso file, then burn with dvddecrypter. See if you still get errors. This is how I back up all my dvds now. I no longer use Nero to burn except when creating data disks or audio disks.
Oh yes.....and to burn lightscribe labels (but still not the dvd video)

After you click on Backup, change Backup Target to ISO image.

The ISO file failed to burn also, I kept a copy of the error message. The error message is a bit long to post. I am out of ideas.

  11. I noticed the burn speed is set at 2.4x,is this the max speed of the media? If so try 4x or 8x media.
Also use Nero InfoTool to make sure DMA is enabled.
If different media doesn't help then your writer might be fried.

Iv'e tried different burn speeds, 2 new burners, etc. I don't know about the DMA being enabled. Were do I check that at? Where in info tool do I look?

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

It might just be the DVD I am trying to copy, who knows.

Try to update your firmware. I had a strange error on my NEC DVD drive where it just refused to write to some Fuji DVD+R DL discs despite having written to these discs earlier. As best I can tell, something on the discs changed and it took a firmware upgrade to get the DVD writer to be able to write to the discs. I can't guarantee this will fix your problem, but you can try.

  14. If DMA is not enabled on all your drives then read how to enable in my sig below.
To check latest firmware go here: www.rpc1.org

I looked at Nero InfoTool, I checked the DMA and their all set to on. My firmware version is 1.0a. I happen to click on the ASPI tab and at the bottom in red it says, ASPI installation is corrupted.

Does anyone know of a free program that will convert avi to mpeg2?

  17. Use ForceAspi Drivers to fix a bad ASPI layer and most encoders have a 30 day trial.

I am trying to super now, perhaps it will work. I think it's the only one I haven't tried.

We'll I thought that super was going to be the answer, but it seems to only convert about 1/3 of the movie then quits. Is there a setting that needs to be changed?
