your encoding time is about right for your cpu, to get close or better than real time you will have to upgrade to a P4 1.5 or better, or an AMD 1600+xp or better.

    hehehe here here

    My NTSC VCD's...

    22 mins of a TVCap on a P3-550... 4 hours 6 mins.
    22 mins of a TVCap on a P3-964... 2 hours 17 mins.
    (512MB PC133 CAS-2 RAM and dual IBM 60gig 7200rpm drives)

    Using:
    VirtualDub 1.4.8 frameserving to...
    - Direct stream copy (a&v)
    TMPGEnc 2.02
    - Noise Reduction (High Quality)
    - Soften Block Noise @ 35/35

I don't remember how long DVD rips take... Though I never use any filters on them.

heh....ok..i meant normal about of RAM...RAM only matters if you wanna do multiple applications at once...however, i highly doubt people will run another proggie while encoding.

btw....first post is for SVCD encoding by tmpgenc CQ_VBR with CQ=70 max bitrate=2520 high quality (slow) motion search accuracy and no filters.
