Hi all,
I wanted to know what the single and dual pass means when encoding a DVD to avi to play on a PVR (Archos AV420).
I tried SimpleDivx (would stop on second pass with windows crash file)
Now I am trying FairUse, but it has been encoding a DVD (BikeBoyz) from 8:30AM to now... 1:00PM and is showing 2 1/2 hours left and says DVD is now being converted which is the last step....i think... 7+hrs to rip a DVD? is that correct?
I am doing this on a Toshiba Satelite A70 laptop with P4 2.06GB w/1gb ram....
Is there a simpler way, faster way to rip DVD's to AVI / MP3 128kb 23fps simple Divx ?

You are using XviD or LMP4 in SimpleDivX? DivX or XviD in FairUse?
2 pass enables better filesize accuracy, better quality if you are aiming for a given filesize and allows VBV for XviD which could be quite important for a portable since it avoids bitrate spikes.
Should take way less than 7 hours for FU to cache a DVD if that is what you meant.
