Hi,
I have merged a few vob files using vobmerge but i donot have the ifo and the bup files. How can i make it compliant so that the whole file can be played on a conventional player or computer drive. Please let me know whether the chapters will be still existing at the places where the files got merged. Thanks

I don't know about the chapters, but you could use TMPGEnc DVD Author to replace the files or for freeware, my choice would be IFOEdit.

I think you basically have to re-create the DVD layout -- as redwudz posted Ifoedit is good, or could use muxman or DVD Author GUI (or one of the other GUIs avail). For chapters you could try to get celltimes using something like Vobedit, but personally think it'd be far less hassle to create your own, new list of cell times to use with whatever authoring app. by previewing video & writing down frame numbers.
How the cell times are treated after vobmerge I have no idea, but imagine they'd probably have been corrected. However, I'd consider it more of a moot point since not all cells correspond to a chapter point, and without original ifo's, you don't know which ones do. Personally I'd use DGIndex & Avisynth or VFAPI to preview the vob in V/Dub, create a chapter (cell times list) in Notepad with frame numbers & use that.
