I extracted a huge AVI from a bunch of RAR files. But when it's played, it has no sound. I'd like to how to check whether the AVI itself has audio and what I can do in order to play its audio?

Most likely your AVI file has no audio, since FAR compression should not to affect a stream.

But if you are familar with GraphEdit just render your file there(File->Render Media File) and take a glance at AVI Splitter if it has audio output pin.

If an AVI nevertheless has an audio you can try to remux your file to force an audio to be played (https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=1472491#1472491)

I'm sure it has audio - but your computer hasn't got the codec to decode it. As thecoalman suggests, try GSpot. It will tell you what audio codec is used (my guess is AC3) and you can then download the codec needed.

I think my AVI has audio, when I played it w/ WMP, it shows the audio stream's playing. I tried GSpot, here's what I got:
    Code:
    container
    OpenDML (AVI v2.0)
    DivX Style "packed bitstream" AVI
    Interleave: 1 vid frame (40ms), preload=512
    Audio frames: Split across interleaves
    File Length Correct

Codec: 0x2000(AC3, Dolby Laboratories, Inc) AC3
is your answer as mats.hogberg suggested.

    Try AC3 Filter.

I already installed the latest K-lite codec pack, and it contains AC3 filter. but the AVI still couldnt play sound. When I tried to open that AC3 filter, a window pops up saying, "This utility is for OFFLINE filter configuration only! this means that you will not see any activity of currently playing applications and configuration setting will not affect them. you;ll need to restart you player for changes take in effect!" So does that mean that I need to installed another AC3 filter separately?

Installing a codec pack is a big mistake. They cause much more problems than they cure. Do a forum search for 'codec packs' and you will see why.

AC3 filter works fine for me. You may have a codec conflict.

Try VLC Media Player. It has it's own codecs.

VLC MEDIA PLAYER solved the problem. a frd of mine told me to adjust the audio switcher in WMP's options, but I couldn't find it in its options. Then I saw the Audio menu in VLC media player. I adjust the audio channnel into reverse stereo, it works!!!
