I have been reading and reading and downloading a lot of stuff for the last month or so but I keep getting more and more confused. I have so far downloaded whole bunch of programs e.g. Dvdate, Dvdatecode, DVsubmaker, DVDSuptools, Subtitle Workshop, SubtitleCreator and so on. I have not really used any of them except Dvdate and Dvdatecode and that too just to extract datecode from AVI files.

All what I want to do is a simple subtitle that will show date and time the video was taken which I should be able to switch on or off with the DVD remote. I should be able to resume playback from the point where I switch the subtitle on or off if I am in middle of watching a DVD.

Is there a quick, simple and easy way of doing this and just this. There are quite a few guides out there that explain how to create your own subtitles in different languages but I don't want to do any of that. I am only working on home movies and do not want to create subtitles in another language. I would like the subtitle to be in the folloiwng format and located at bottom right corner of the picture, just like in DV Camcorder:

    mmm dd yyyy
    hh:mms am/pm

Can someone point me to the right direction please. Will really appreciate.

    Thanks a lot in advance.......

    Subhash.

You have the right software. Use it to create a subtitle stream for your video, then author using software that allows subtitles (DVD Lab Pro, for example). DV sub maker looks like a good bet.

As for being able to stop and resume where you left off - that is a function of your dvd player, not authoring.

When you say subtitle stream, what file we are talking about. Would it be *.sub, *.sup, *.ssa or something else.

Then for the authoring, will DV Sub Maker do the job and how do I go about it ? Is there any step by step guide for this.

    Thanks.

The type of subtitle depends on what authoring software you use. DVD Labp, Ulead DVD Workshop 2, TDA Pro are examples of authring software that can handle subtitles.

Look at the menu to your left. There is a Guides section, which covers many things, including authoring. Read a few guides, find one that you can follow, and give it a go.
