How did you get the video from the tape to the computer? Does this black section appear when playing the tape in the camcorder?

It could be a corruption on the tape, but more likely it is a place where you stop shooting, then restarted after rewinding/fastforwarding, and the time stamp got screwed. Try setting your transfer software to transfer by scene, and it should (hopefully) transfer up to the blank, skip to the next scene, and transfer the next section. You can then join them, rather then try to edit bits out.

That may be the bestter solution. Before you do that, try scanning for bad frames in virtualdub to see what it says

  10. ok, i opened the avi and everything was greyed out except for for the input file button the file path, and the file file status which says"file reading error".

also, i snipped a few pieces from the end of the file, and ran it into the program and it gave all the info on that piece, and it said that the format said the file was dvsd.

is that some kind of compresion filter?

i captured with roxio 7.5 and set it to capure in dvd quality.

that's probably where i messed up.

    thanks everyone
    steve.
