I borrowed a dvd from my friend(saw 2) and all that was on it was the VIDEO_TS file. My computer wasn't reading it as a DVD. So i took off the VIDEO_TS folder and burnt that to a dvd(Nero) It doesn't play on my computer but it works on my friends dvd player. It does not work on my dvd player. Is it missing something other the the VIDEO_TS? what do i need to do to get it as a DVD and to play on most DVD players?

So this is a legitimate disc ? I ask only because I haven't seen a commercial disc that only had the Video_TS folder, and the not Audio_TS folder as well.

How did you copy it ?
Did you use the DVD Video template the Burning Rom module of Nero ?

This disc i got from my friend is not off the market, it was burnt to a DVD-R. I opened up DVD Shrink and it could not read the disc. I tried playing the disc in VLC player and all it was, was like the menu, but i couldn't click on anything, it would just play through the menu and play through the selections of the menu by its self. So what i did was went to "My Computer" and explored the disc and just drug the VIDEO_TS folder onto my desktop(that was the only folder on the disc) and then just went to nero and just drug the folder into the VIDEO_TS folder on nero and burnt it onto a dvd-r

Lots of commercial DVD's do not bother with an AUDIO_TS folder. Look at most episode disks. In my expierence at 33% of commercial DVD's don't have an AUDIO_TS folder.
Does the VIDEO_TS folder have ifo, bup, and vob files in it? Did you try to play your friend's disk on a DVD player?

from what you just wrote you are saying you put the VIDEO_TS folder with the files inside of it inside another VIDEO_TS folder in nero
Of course that would not work, you now have your dvd files 2 folders deep

yes, it has all those files in it. and to answer the folder question, i put the video_ts in the place where it has to be to be ableto burn. i put it in a folder that was colored red that was already there on nero. there was the red VIDEO_TS folder and then a regular AUDIO_TS folder, both have nothing in them until you put the respected files in them to be burnt.

so is that my problem? because, i tried the disc that i got from my friend before i copied the VIDEO_TS and it did exactly what the copy i made did. it also wouldn't play in my dvd player but did on my friends. and the copy i made of it works on my friends and not mine. so they are pretty much exactly the same.

A standalone dvd player will only look into the FIRST VIDEO_TS folder and if it does not see the correct files.... it stops!
So if the files are inside a 2nd VIDEO_TS folder inside the 1st VIDEO_TS folder it wont find them.
You have to have only ONE VIDEO_TS folder on the dvd with the proper files inside that one and only VIDEO_TS folder.
And nero automaticaly generates that folder so all you nee to do is import ALL the IFO's, BUP's & VOB files into that folder showing in nero.

If you double click that red folder in nero it will open up to the inside of that folder, just like if you were opening any folder on your pc, then just import the files that are in the VIDEO_TS folder on your desktop into nero and burn.

It sounds like whoever did the original copy screwed it up royally, which is why playback is hit and miss.

I would try removing all the .ifo and .bup files, and using IFOEdit to recreate them. Then try burning it.

Or go and buy the original version, which doesn't seem to have all these problems.

IFOEdit will take about 3 seconds to rebuild the ifo files. Read the associated guides (found on the Tools page for IFOEdit
