I got tired of waiting for my Nero software to arrive in the mail, so I tried to burn a DVD-R using my Roxio Easy Cd Creator 5 software instead. My dvd burner is an NEC 3550A dual layer external machine. When I tried to burn the data dvd, I got a message stating that it could not locate an appropriate burner on my system for what I was trying to do. Does this mean my version of Roxio is not compatible with this machine?

    Thanks.

Roxio Easy Cd Creator 5 is very old and never heard of a NEC 3550A. I think Roxio stopped updates for v5 2 yrs ago.

Friends don't let friends use Roxio products.

I would agree with edDV on that.

Why not just DL one of the free DVD burning programs from our 'Tools' list if you don't want to wait for Nero? You can uninstall it later.

Ok, I'll just assume that Roxio is the problem. Thanks for the replies.

I think edTV was saying that Roxio 5 never heard of that burner rather than himself.

I was on the beta evaluation team for Roxio 8 (and never violated my NDA by posting screen shots here). The only feature that I would use on 8 that I don't have on Roxio 6.0 is the ability to burn dual layer DVD. There is an awful lot of bloat in Roxio including a photo imaging suite and disk label suite. I think everyone has a person favorite program for handling photos and it most likely is not Roxio, so why they bother to include it is beyond me. That be said, the comparison reviews I have read between the latest Roxio and latest Nero indicate that Nero has a lot of bloat, too.

I think redwudz advice to download the free tools that do limited tasks, but do them well is good advice for anybody.

Even v5 was good for CD but it went downhill fast from there.

I have a ton of Adaptec products. They were king of mainstream SCSI and CD. Then they went broke and sold some assets to Roxio.

    I agree.
Roxio EZCD5 was VERY good (my personal favorite) for CD creation.
