I have a DVD writer in my computer, It always works when I put a DVD in the has programs on it and always works with CDs. So if I put my san anderas DVD, it works everytime. But I a put a DVD movie in it only works 10% of the time, most often the first disk in after start up might work. I have had this problem for a long time now, I thought after I got a new Motherboard, the proplem might go away, but no. My current setup is this, my operating system hard drive and DVD writer are connected to the main ata cable and I have two more harddrives on the secondary ata.
also the DVD writer is set up as a slave
Any help
This problem has plagued me for mouths
Thanks
Chris

It really sounds like a problem with the writer, especially if you changed the MB and reinstalled everything.
It probably wouldn't help a bit, but you could move the writer to the secondary IDE as master and put one of the HDs in place of it in primary slave position. Make sure you set the master/slave jumpers properly.
Other than that, I can't think of much else to try except a different burner.
