  1. Im still not sure which DVD player will work the best for me. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I burn alot of concert videos off the net which come in various formats and my lack of knowledge hinders me from makeing my new DVD player purchase. I bought a Toshiba SD-v392su VHS/DVD combo and its a piece of crap. Lot of skipping on my DVDs and some dont play at all. I then tryed my daughters cheap Sylvania and all my dics work. I guess the saying "you get what you pay for" doesnt apply to DVD players. Anyway what is the most universal player? I would like to get a multi-disc player so I can load it with a bunch of DVDs and let it play random. Please help because I dont want to get burned again like I did on the Toshiba. Thanks.

Anything that plays a variety of formats should be OK for you. Your requirement for a multi-disc player may not be the best idea though. My personal experience has been that these players have a lot more problems than single disc players. The only multidisc player I ever owned was an Apex and it worked like a champ for me, but it couldn't do random play. It may be hard to find a player that can do that. It's worth saying that the Apex model I had was notorious for quality control problems and had tons of returns. I got one of the few good ones.

I have had a negative opinion about Toshiba for a long time. I remember about 4 years ago when they were selling a DVD player that wouldn't play VCD at all. It wouldn't play it on burnable media or commercial media. The guy I knew who owned it called their support line and they said "Yeah, it doesn't play VCD at all". It says a lot about the company that they made a player that didn't even support VCD because they figured no one in America would have any need for that.

The problem you currently have may not be a "bad" player, you just need to use different media.

Keep in mind that even if someone suggests a really good player that does everything that you want, doesn't mean it will be compatible with your current media and collection of already burned discs.
